Rethinking the Schedule
Why Focus Periods?
Add Time for Targeted Intervention
No Extra Time?
Traditional school schedules don't leave time for added intervention. Extra help happens during lunch break, recess, or before and after school--this is hard on staff and parents, and it feels like punishment to students.
Add a Focus Period
In order to prioritize student learning, time for intervention needs to be built into the schedule. Some schools call this "Flex Time" or "Tutor Time," we call it a "Focus Period."
For Intervention or Enrichment
Some students need extra time to learn essential skills.
Some students desire extended learning that goes beyond what is essential.
Some students have busy after-school schedules and love having extra homework time.
All students benefit.
